Ethics

Our Government Affairs team, under the direction of the Assurant PAC Board and oversight of the Assurant Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, is committed to the growth of a robust, value-driven, and ethically-operated employee PAC to support state and federal candidates for office. To reaffirm our commitment that Assurant’s political participation reflects our values and is conducted in accordance with best practices, we’ve adopted new bylaws and standards to adhere to the CPA-Wharton Zicklin Model Code of Conduct for Corporate Political Spending, which is the “gold standard” for corporate political disclosure and accountability policies and practices. As a result of these efforts, Assurant has received a perfect 100% score in both 2022 and 2023 – an increase of 79% since 2020.  

Transparency

Assurant has also updated our corporate Political Activities Policies Statement to prohibit the use of corporate funds to support independent political expenditures (often called Super PACs). The focus on campaign finance reform is often targeted to this kind of spending. Corporate sponsored, employee funded PACs are held by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to a distinctly higher level of contribution limits and transparency requirements. We want to grow our Assurant sponsored employee PAC because it is important to support the successful election of officials who understand what we do, why it matters, and who we are.
The Assurant PAC becomes an increasingly important tool as we grow, evolve, and thrive within our highly regulated environment.  The focus of our PAC is to support candidates who shape the regulatory landscape to more favorably facilitate the approval of innovative products and solutions and to protect our business and our employees from adverse legislation and regulations that could harm our ability to serve our customers.
